Pentatonic scale

Soloing - 5 Note Scales

The Most important scale form in modern guitar playing is the Major Pentatonic Scale

From the Greek word Penta meaning Five. The scale has 5 notes.

Here is the A major Pentatonic Scale

Use these fingering for each note:
Place your 1st Finger on the 2nd Fret
Place your 2nd Finger on the 3rd Fret
Place your 3rd Finger on the 4th Fret
Place your 4th Finger on the 5th Fret

e[]--------------------------2---5[]
B[]----------------------2--5-----[]
G[]----------------2--4-----------[]
D[]-----------2--4----------------[]
A[]-----2---4---------------------[]
E[]-5-----------------------------[]

This form can be transposed to any key!

Simply start on whatever key you want by changing the first note.

So if you want to play the C scale.

Start with your fourth finger on the 8th Fret since that is a C note on the Low E string

A progression to practice this scale would be:
Use the above tabbed scale.

Four Beats for each chord

A Major / A Major / D Major / D Major
B minor / D Major / E Major / A Major

This will allow you to hear how this one scale interacts with different chords in the key of A
